University teaches design. Projects demand detail.
Detarva Academy grew out of the gap between the two: a layer of knowledge that usually only passes from senior to junior, when there's time.
The story
The same question, in every studio.
Detarva began as a detail library for firms: a place to keep parapets, window sills and connections that have proven themselves, with their sources. Working with firms, we kept hearing the same thing. The standards exist, but juniors don't know why they are the way they are.
Seniors don't have time to repeat themselves. University stops at the concept. Long videos get watched but don't change how anyone draws. What's missing is practice: handling a drawing, getting it wrong, and knowing why.
So we built the Academy. Lessons are short, practice uses drawings you can change, and the teachers are practitioners who still work on projects.
Ecosystem
Three products, one concern: buildings done right.
Each stands on its own, and they connect.
- For firms1
Detarva
A detail library. Firms store, search and review their details in one place.
- For the public2
Jadi Berapa by Detarva
Construction cost estimates over chat, connecting people to builders and structural experts.
- For students, juniors and firms3
Detarva Academy
A place to learn architecture and engineering from the detail up, with practice you do rather than watch.
- Detarva to AcademyFirm standards in Detarva become private tracks in the Academy.
- Jadi Berapa to AcademyPeople asking in Jadi Berapa need people who understand buildings.
Principles
Six things we won't trade away.
- 1Do it, don't just watch itEvery lesson makes you do something to a drawing.
- 2Start from the problemWe begin with what leaks, cracks or adds up wrong, then go down to the line.
- 3Sources must be clearWe only cite standards we're sure of. When we're unsure, we say so.
- 4These drawings are for learningEvery detail is an illustration. For a real building, ask a qualified expert.
- 5Site language and drawing languageYou need both, because builders and engineers don't use the same words.
- 6No adsWe live on subscriptions, not on your attention.
Team
People who've had drawings sent back.
A small team from studios, sites and product. You'll meet the creators in each course.
Curriculum

Technical practitioners
Architects, structural and MEP engineers who keep the content correct.
Product
The people building the exercises, parametric drawings and the Firm Portal.
Firm partners
The ones who help firms turn standards into private tracks.
Arvy
A tutor right there beside the drawing.
Arvy stays with you through practice, helps you find the relevant material and sources through Tanya Arvy, and reminds you that technical decisions stay with you.
